"I wish music could adopt me" Erik Sermon, aka The green eyed bandit (Def Squad) Man I gotta give big ups to a few good tracks going around at the moment. Firstly, Alica Keys and No One. I was wondering if she could do a third amazing album in a row. I was broken after Laryn Hill, so since then when somebody takes me to heavens, they usually fail to repeat, but this lady is something else. This is why my wife knows I really love her coz I gave up Alicia Keys for her. Secondly, Timbaland with One Republic and Apologize. Where did these white boys come from? Man they are good. I know one song is not enough to judge an artist or group, but these guys are the next big thing for me. This song is top stuff. There's this line when he says, "I need you like a heart needs a beat". Mmm. There's a soft accentuation on that line that just gets be crazy. If you are in love, you'll know what I'm talking about. Thirdly, Lupe Fiasco and Super Star. Ah man. When this guy first came out I thought his stuff was okay, but I was convinced he wasn't going to last. I mean, he refuses to rap about money, alcohol, sex, drugs, grills and hoes. There's no hip hop career there. Thats stuff is standard. What the hell? But, he's proven to be a character that's going to be around for a while. This track is soulful and the dude backing him up is also at another level, although he sounds too much like Chris Martin. But, the song is hot man. Fourthly, DJ Jazzy Jeff and My soul is not for sale. What can I say here? Jazzy Jeff is an under rated top notch, master of soul and hip hop. His last couple of albums have not had commercial success but the music on there is redefining the game. I think that he's just far ahead of his time. When the world catches up, he's going to an cult icon. Fifth, HHP, the whole damn album. I know, I'm late here coz he's been hot for ever. You see its the language thing. The dude won't rap enough in Zulu and English is used sparingly. I have this obessesive need to understand the music I'm listening to and I don't understand his lyrics. This principle is what saved me from the Macarena in the 90's. So I've kept this principle coz clearly it helps. Oh, I'm talking about YBN2A. I don't even know what that means. But, the beats and the flow is too hot to resist so I bought the whole damn album and currently pumping it in my car. If you haven't heard these tracks, check em out. I guarantee your money back if you don't enjoy this. By the way, can somebody get that Sean Kingston guy off the radio. He's driving me nuts. How do we get such crap music into circulation? We must take these radio dj's or the playlist editors in a public court to account for subjecting us to this nonsense. Oh, and then some songs kinda grow on you. R Kelly's Rock Star has really grown on me. Its been years since Kells has made me dig anything. Check it out.
